Workshop Abstract
Cancer Clinical trials represent a cornerstone in advancing cancer care, fostering the development and validation of new treatments, drugs, and medical devices. The conduct of clinical trials is associated with unique challenges and requires extensive infrastructure and resources to ensure high quality, rigorous study design, implementation, data management, and quality assurance. The integration of cancer informatics, digital health technologies, and AI has the potential to revolutionized the landscape of oncology clinical trials, offering novel opportunities to streamline processes, enhance patient engagement, and improve data collection and analysis.
The Spring 2024 Summit explores the intersection of clinical trials, informatics, AI, and digital health. It delves into the transformative potential of informatics tools, encompassing electronic data capture (EDC) systems, data management platforms, and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms in optimizing trial design, patient recruitment, and real-time monitoring. Furthermore, we will probe the application of digital health solutions, such as wearables, mobile applications, telemedicine, and remote monitoring devices, to enable patient-centric decentralized trials and advancing continuous, real-world data collection for the benefit of patients.
The utilization of cancer informatics and digital health in clinical trials introduces both opportunities and challenges across “clinical trials data science”. These technologies facilitate faster and more efficient trials and necessitate robust data privacy measures, interoperability standards, and regulatory compliance to safeguard patient confidentiality, maximize the sharing of knowledge, and data integrity.
The 2024 Summit will highlight the importance of collaboration between NCI Designated Cancer Centers, Community Oncology stakeholders, including researchers, healthcare providers, regulatory bodies, and technology developers, to harness the full potential of informatics, AI, and digital health in revolutionizing clinical trials. Embracing these innovations will optimize trial efficiency and transform healthcare by accelerating the delivery of safe and effective therapies to patients worldwide.
